Started by brothers Quinn and James Grant Conroy, and overseen by a licensed physician and other scientists, True Sugar is a CA registered 501c3 non-profit entity set up for public benefit. We provide nutritional information on food that either isn't required by the government to be reported or is reported inaccurately. This is a bigger problem than most people realize. We also promote diabetes awareness with "Diabetes High" (see diabeteshigh.org for details).

We founded this organization when our family member was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and accurate, critical nutritional information, especially regarding carbohydrates, was elusive. We found that data was missing at many places where we ate out. People need reliable information on the food they are eating, when the FDA rules do or do not apply. Some charter or private school cafeterias, bakeries, individual restaurants and chain restaurants with fewer than 20 locations are NOT required to report their products' nutritional values. Many do not even know these important details and lack the resources for scientific evaluation of food items. Our mission is to help these food providers, and their customers, obtain accurate, scientifically confirmed, nutritional information, especially for those with diabetes or high cholesterol. We are in the process of designing an app for each school in Orange County, CA that is missing the data, providing accurate nutritional information about cafeteria food for their kids. This up-to-date information project has begun in Santa Ana, CA.
